Building Diversity In Your Start Up

Diversity is huge concept that must be included across the market for companies. The concept of DEI is important to understand when it comes to creating new companies.

DEI stands for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion which is what should make up the work force when it comes to your company. Diversity in the work force can bring in a new range of knowledge and acquire new diverse markets, and even break down barriers that have been potential issues in the past. New ideas can be brought in, as well as new perspectives. A new community can be formed here that creates a positive environment for the work force as a whole. It may require adjustments in the beginning, but it is worth it to help you company succeed at the end of the day.

There are many steps you can take to focus on building diversity in your start up. A few examples are listed below.

  1. Adjust your screening process when hiring.

Many jobs aren’t posted online and people tend to have a negative bias with names that aren’t white. Focus on being more inclusive with the hiring process and post on different places when trying to find different people to hire.

2. Provide diversity training for those already at your start up.

Making sure that diversity in your company has to start at the beginning, with those who were hired. You don’t need to force the training on your team, but emphasize how important it is to have diversity in you company.

3. Celebrate all religions and different types of cultures.

Having diversity in your start up means accepting other cultures and embracing them. An example of this would be celebrating other holidays in different cultures, like Ramadan. Recognizing other cultures shows that you care about others and how you are all for diversity.

4. Hiring diversity Managers.

Hiring diversity managers can immediately show that you are trying to better your company with diversity and inclusion. With these managers, problems can be addressed right away and you will always be able to receive feed back when it comes to these specific areas.
